Hey, that's not necessary. This was just good-natured banter and all. Besides, I'm not too certain whether I am a fictional character already. You know, like Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters In Search Of An Author. I have yet to meet Kiel, but anyone who teaches college full-time cannot be all bad.

As for Kiel, it wasn't like he wrote the book for me or anything :), but the South Hadley US Open was my first official outing in the media tent and I was definitely intimidated. Kiel was a peach. Meanwhile, I'll be thinking about how to work you into the next book...

I've been a fan of Isleib and her charactes since book one. It is always my goal to toss a little literary tongue in cheek into my blogs on occasion. I imagine that Kiel provided quite a bit of help at the US Open that year, and was recognizing him as such. Besides, to paraphrase the mediocre Groucho Marx, I'd never read a book that would have me as a character.

Since Kiel did not write the book, you can't fault him. Isleib used his name as a kind of thank-you for his assistance - what is wrong with that? Quite a few writers insert certain names into their books as a kind of in-joke. Ron, maybe you're a teeny bit jealous that it wasn't your name used?

The books are quite enjoyable, by the way...
