PGA Tour comes back to Washington DC, this time with Tiger Woods
Tuesday February 27, 2007 | 16:06:34 111 words, 4980 views
All the Tiger Woods fans in the Washington DC area will be rejoicing tonight when the news leaks out that “Tiger Woods Is Coming To Toooown". The PGA Tour will fill the hole in the schedule on July 5-8 with a new tournament in the Nation’s Capitol that benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation. And you know what that means. The only drawback will be that this year Woods’ wife Elin is expecting their first child near that date. So, dear Washingtonians, you may have to wait until next year to get the best player in history to play in your ... full post »
Major newspaper gives big coverage to LPGA
Thursday February 15, 2007 | 11:21:57 112 words, 8529 views
I am impressed. The newspaper USA Today has trumped any and all other coverage for the 2007 season on the LPGA Tour. I had planned to write a little something myself about all the interesting stories that will unfold this year, but I’d feel like I was cheating. These folks have covered it so well that all I can do is point you in their direction this time.
What this extra special coverage tells me, however, is that the LPGA is starting to raise its profile. And since I already believe the LPGA has a tremendous product, all I can say ... full post »
Nissan Open will be great golfing theater - and it doesn’t include Tiger Woods
Wednesday February 14, 2007 | 10:36:13 242 words, 3753 views
Don’t know if Spencer Hux will watch the Nissan Open but I’m sure most real golf fans will tune in, that is, if they can’t get there in person. SHux wrote an article last week whining about how boring golf is without Tiger Woods in the field. The other complaint was that the Tour doesn’t play great courses when Woods is AWOL. Boo hoo. What that says is that he is a Tiger fan more than a golf fan. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
But, seriously, are you kidding me? Here is who will be there: every-frickin-body else! ... full post »
Tournament Golf is great without Tiger Woods
Wednesday February 7, 2007 | 15:19:00 153 words, 4054 views
It’s the game, Spence, not the players. Yes, Tiger Woods is the best golfer alive, at present, and likely the best we’ll ever see play the game. But that doesn’t mean tournaments are boring when he’s not around. Far from it. In fact, it could be argued that tournaments are better when he’s not there. Because then, there is a chance that any one in the field might win. I don’t know about anyone else but I thought the U.S. Open last year was the most exciting tournament of the year on the PGA Tour. And ole Tiger Woods missed ... full post »
Ernie Els gets his first comeback test from Tiger Woods
Saturday February 3, 2007 | 12:13:42 192 words, 3743 views
Ernie Els has publicly stated that he is on a three year plan to reach the number one world ranking of golf. Finally his health – both physical & mental – is excellent. But even if he gets his game in better shape then ever, there will still be one roadblock: Tiger Woods, the greatest golfer we have ever seen. On Sunday in the tiny Middle Eastern country of Dubai, Els will face his first big hurdle.
If you are a fan of the game, this is must-see tv. (Thank God for The Golf Channel!) It’s almost immaterial that several others ... full post »
