Set your VCR or DVD-R right now for the hour preceding the Sunday broadcast of the Masters. We are going to be treated to a look into history when Arnold Palmer was the Tiger Woods of his day. During contract negotiations, Jim Nantz somehow bargained for the opportunity from Augusta National to host a one-hour special using actual broadcast footage of the 1960 Masters. This was when the 30-year old Arnie was the swashbuckling superstar of golf who really popularized the game in the early years of the televised sports era. This material has not been seen since it originally aired 47 years ago. I have it on good authority that this will be a very special piece. It will not be a highlight package but rather a piece of the original broadcast itself with announcing done by the voice of the time - Jim McKay.
I also understand that this particular treatment of Masters history will not be the last so we can look for future specials like this each year. If you are a fan of the game, you do not want to miss this. Do yourself a favor and record this thing. It will be the equivalent of sitting in the balcony watching the Declaration of Independence being signed. I swear, I could just kiss Jim Nantz.
