Suzann Pettersen vs. Lorena Ochoa: The Best Rivalry in Golf

Imagine if Phil Mickelson was to win 5 times in 6 months, and Tiger Woods was in the field for 4 of those wins. The press would be salivating over the prospect of an intense rivalry and, more importantly, we the golfing public would be treated to some great tournament golf viewing. Well, a similar thing is happening on the LPGA Tour. Lorena Ochoa’s play has been Tiger-like as she’s won 7 times, including a Major. She’s also finished 2nd 5 times and, besides that, only 4 times out of the other 11 tournaments entered has she not finished in the ... full post »

Stuck Behind Slow Golfers

Wednesday October 17, 2007 | 13:26:37 363 words, 5921 views
The reasons for slow play are many but I think power carts (buggies in the UK) are the primary culprit. I was thinking the Americans had gotten a break by having the aloof Nick Faldo chosen as Captain of the European side in the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla, KY. And Captain Wonderful did his part by slapping the Irish home crowd and not having ... full post »

Seve Trophy Has Ryder Cup Ramifications

Monday October 1, 2007 | 15:14:28 352 words, 4775 views
Played in the shadow of the enormously successful and entertaining Presidents Cup was the Seve Trophy which is, outside of Europe, a little-known team event pitting the best professionals of Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) vs. Continental Europe (EUR). It is also entertaining, though quite a bit less successful. Keeping it deeper in the shadows was the lack of European superstar participation. The biggest of names stayed away in droves: players like Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Niclas Fasth, Henrik Stenson, Jose Maria Olazabal, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Luke Donald. Despite being held in Ireland, nary an Irishman was in ... full post »
