Brand new Lake Presidential Golf Club easily the best course in southern Maryland

Wow! I just played a preview round on the newest addition to top tier daily fee golf courses in the Washington DC metropolitan area. Lake Presidential is located in Upper Marlboro, MD and situated on spectacular, natural, rolling terrain. You like tree-lined holes? Got em. Lakes, streams, gullies? Got them too. Open holes, risk/reward shots, shaved chipping areas, raised greens? Check.

The owners have done a wise and wonderful thing. Although it is quite playable right now, they’ve opted to give the course additional time to mature before opening to what is sure to be a full docket once the word gets out. So there won’t be any of the usual new-course commentary about how nice it will be when they get it in good condition.

I’ll go as far as to say this layout is at least as good as any in the entire state, with the lone exception of spectacular Bulle Rock. Not too shabby. So, remember the name, alter your schedules, do whatever it is you have to do to ensure that you play this course when it opens to the public in Spring 2008. You won’t be sorry.

Nothing screams "legitimate golf writer" like an initial "wow." Way to tease us, sockets! No architect, no yardages, no memorable holes (we despise 'signature' as a qualifier), nothing but a dangling carrot. The pictures on the truncated webpage look nice, though.

Hehehe .... since it's not open to the public and hasn't even been rated yet, I thought I'd wait until next Spring to get into some detail. Just wanted folks in my neck of the woods to know it's coming.

I had the opportunity to play a preview round 11/10. I agree with Shanks in all respecs but one - I believe it rivals Bulle Rock and will also become a destination course. Spectacular

Spectacular property - yes! Haven't had an in-depth talk with course management yet, but not sure if the current routing is the same as the Norman design. Certainly it's the same parcel of land.

And before I would compare it to the 5 star BR - it's only fair that conditions at LP be allowed to mature.
