Golf Drama at Solheim Cup

There has been relatively little buzz going into the 2009 Solheim Cup this week because everybody has been saying the Americans are heavily favored to win. Well, hold onto your hats because this may yet be a barnburner. Halfway through the opening round of matches the Europeans are ahead in 3 of the 4 matches. Conventional wisdom says the underdogs must be ahead going into singles matches on Sunday where depth usually prevails. So far the Euros should be encouraged.

Personally, I am a huge fan of team competitions like this and will be watching the Solheim Cup rather than the PGA Tour event in North Carolina or the Jeld-Wen (major championship) on the Champions Tour. As this is such an emotional weekend and given the youth on both teams, you can believe that anything could happen.

USA draws first blood, and now ahead in 3 of 4 four-ball matches. Will be there covering it on Sunday. Hope it's still a good competition by then!

I'll keep an eye out for you.

What a tight, well-played match the 1st one was! Kerr/Creamer shoot 65 to win 1up over Petterson/Gustafson.

Ditto hope Europe can make it competitive thru' Sunday. Liked MW's play, but either something is marked GUR or it isn't & don't understand ruling that it would be marked GUR from NOW on. (Not MW's fault, however). Great play from USA so far.

Nicholas may be making a mistake keeping Petterson & Gustafson together.
