LPGA PLayer of the Year Shootout
Rarely does a large honor like Player of the Year come down to the final event of the season, but that is exactly the case in the LPGA today. Finishing on Monday because of heavy rains, 2009 POY leader Jiyai Shin starts the day just one shot off the lead of Kristy McPherson, with challenger Lorena Ochoa a single shot behind Shin. If either one of them wins the tournament, they will be POY for 2009. The possibilities are endless if neither one of them wins but only one of the two will be POY.
This has the possibility of an unusal situation where a single putt on the final green may determine the year-long issue. Sadly, only Shin is in the final group. It would have been extra special if Ochoa could have been in it as well.
As I write this, Ochoa has birdied the first hole to draw even with Shin, one shot out of the lead. You might want to tune in to Golf Channel’s coverage this afternoon for some potentially compelling competition.
