Fantasy Golf Being Ignored
Call me Grumpy if you want but exactly when is broadcast television and Golf Channel going to recognize that there are a significant number of fans playing some form of Fantasy Golf? As some of you know, I am never averse to a small wager for entertainment purposes. But professional golf is positively the worst game in the world in which to pick an outright winner, hence, the recent proliferation of fantasy golf leagues. It’s more fun and you really don’t have to know much to draft a winning team and/or players.
Sunday’s coverage on NBC - Golf Channel’s PARTNER - showed the full field standings precisely one time during its three hours of coverage. I say again, once. And that was not when the competition was over either. They really need to get on the ball as has the NFL. Have you ever seen how the NFL/MLB/NBA update scores and other pertinent information during a broadcast? You almost can’t avoid seeing it, if you watch even casually.
And while I’m at it, what is with Golf Channel’s policy for showing scores on the scroll? They show the top 20 - at most - unless it happens to be a major championship. For God’s sake, they’re the GOLF CHANNEL! It’s a lousy scroll that runs continuously so, please, show all the scores. It might surprise somebody down there in Orlando but some of us like to know what our favorite is doing even if he/she is not in the top 10 or 20. What do they think, I’m going to change the channel if I see who’s in 30th place in Phoenix?
There now, I feel better already.

This thing called the internet does the job for you. T'aint no billion dollar business like it is in football. If it were, the Yahoo format and others would be much better organized and scripted.
