you lucky carolina fans - watch out, Spurrier's coming

Win a free golf book!

One more word about Steve Spurrier going to South Carolina. I have it from a reliable, inside source how Spurrier responded to the new president at the University of Florida, who asked Spurrier to submit a resume after it became known Ron Zook was out.

“You want a resume?” Spurrier reportedly said, incredulously. “Look in your goddamned trophy case!”

Sounds like something Spurrier would say. I have to admit that as a Florida State alumnus, I hate Spurrier. But, I also have to say he is one of the best college football coaches who ever lived. All those people who say the SEC has passed him by are in for a surprise. And all those Carolina fans, who will surely see the ‘ol ball coach at their golf courses, are in for a treat. The boy can coach ‘em up real good.

And don’t think golf didn’t have something to do with it. Spurrier, a golf addict, played at Augusta National with his buddy Lou Holtz, who is a member, and he surely is drooling at all those nice, Carolina courses.

Spurrier will win a bunch of ball games, and that’s great for the Gamecocks, if they can put up with his arrogance.
