I’m watching these chuckleheads on TV, one of those idiotic shows where a bunch of sportswriters sit around arguing (what is it about this country now where all we do is sit around either arguing or watching other people argue?) and they’re all high and mighty about the people who called the Masters on the phone to say Tiger Woods broke the rules when he tapped in a bogey putt.
“Bad for the game.” “Ridiculous,” they intone. I say, what’s the problem? Golf is an elitist game – geting a little interaction from the Great Unwashed is good. Giving us a say in how the game is played is good. Besides, where’s the harm? The officials obviously missed it. If somebody sees something on TV, speak up! Golf has two billion rules; the old folks in Augusta can’t be expected to know them all.
The only thing to be considered is if the complaints are valid. Who cares how it’s called to attention?
Did you see the tap-in? It was like Tiger was playing billiards. Of course it was illegal! Alas, the spineless geezers at the Masters let it slide. Wouldn’t it be great if one of the coddled billionaires lost a major because of some anal yahoo sitting on his couch with cheese dip on his face?

Viewers should not be allowed to call in and report a violation of any golf rules. The players themselves and those whom they are playing against can call the infraction if any. This is the only sport I know of that allows such a ridiculous thing to happen. I wonder if the individuals who claim to have such integrity for the game call the same violations on themselves on their weekend games. My guess is no.
