CBS holding Masters hostage

Here’s some thoughts from TravelGolf’s Jennifer Mario. I was wondering the same thing:

Why is CBS holding the Masters hostage? Right now Tiger’s made seven straight birdies to steal the lead from Chris DiMarco. This is exciting stuff, and what is CBS airing? Besides CBS News Sunday morning, we’ll also be treated to The Backyardigans and Dora the Explorer.

Okay, so maybe they’re married to their own programming, but CBS doesn’t even have the decency to farm it out to ESPN, or even USA. USA is now showing some quality infomercials. Surely the Golf Channel would be happy to preempt their airing of the 1972 PGA Championship. We could be watching what could be the most exciting moments of this entire tournament, but no, the best we’ll get is an updated leaderboard on golf.com. Argh!

Did anyone ever find out why CBS wasn't showing this exciting footage? The sports announcers at our local station (Channel 8, Tampa Bay, FL) said it was the Masters' people who wouldn't allow them to film live.

Tim, your credibility is completely shot. Don't jump on Tiger's bandwagon now. You really made a fool of yourself.

Geez, what planet are you living on? Nobody holds the Masters "hostage". TV coverage of the Masters has always been limited because...the Masters wants it that way. If CBS/USA had their way, the completion of the 3rd round would've been televised live.

extended coverage will never happen until you get some of the old arrogant, cocky "do it our way, or not at all" guys out of there and start letting some of the younger members that have some sort of vision, and who realize that the general as well as the golfing public deserve better! All we are aking for is more coverage...whats the big deal HOOTIE!!!
