Vijay Singh in the golf Hall of Fame? Isn't he still playing?

I know golf is a different kind of sport and you can play until you’re 106, but it still doesn’t seem right to me to have a guy still playing on the PGA Tour and be in the Hall of Fame. Nothing against Vijay Singh, who was just named to the HOF, but he’s only 42. Football, baseball and basketball players retire at that age, but not golfers.

Officials say naming golfers to the HOF is tricky because they don’t retire. True, but can’t they wait until the guy is at least ready for the Seniors Tour – sorry, the Champion’s Tour. Why not have a Hall of Fame Tour, the way they’re letting them in – they keep lowering the criteria, including ballotting. The LPGA is worse – Annika Sorenstam is only 33 and she’s in. Michele Wie may make it before she hits puberty.

If the Sports Writing Hall of Fame inducted active sportswriters, hell, I’d already be in. But, I’m a modest sort who doesn’t mind waiting until I’m 35, when I plan to retire. By then, most of my vast body of work will be anthologzied anyway, and it will be a good time for me to accept the honor.
