Europeans already making excuses for PGA Championship at Baltusrol

Well, the Europeans are already making excuses for the PGA Championship this week at 7,392-yard Baltusrol.

“They’ve made the same old mistake, gone for length instead of subtlty,” Irishman Paul McGinley told the Irish Examiner. “Length, length, length, that’s not what the game is about, and still they’re going to have good scoring here because the greens are soft.”

Well, you know this happens all the time at majors. This is what they do, make the courses longer so it will be more of a test, hopefully to produce a great champion. McGinley went on to imply the course is being set up for long hitters like Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh.

“At the monment, the top four players in the world are also four of the longest hitters, so they’re not going to stand up and say this is not the way the game should be,” McGinley told the paper.

Little wonder no European has won this tournament in 75 years. Hey, get off the porch if you can’t run with the big dogs.

Chris, I think it is, "If you can't run with the Big Dogs, then stay on the porch." Sorry....

A Euro will win this weekend. You heard it hear. I am not a Euro fan, but I'm sick of the question "When's a Euro going to win a Major?" Go Padraig.
Keep up the good work Tim. I like your stuff.

I'm pulling for Paddy so he can dedicate the win to his recently deceased father. What a great story that would be.

hmm, well Padraig missed the cut. I think it is just as well cause he is depressed at the moment. I'd rather he win his first major when he is over his grief so that he enjoys it.

With one day to go Bjorn is in with a shout, but he won't win. You heard it first here.

Tim...I admire your consistency. You miss the point by 180 degrees once again. Of course, the Euros are correct! A 7300 yd golf course. 500+ yd par 4s...no lack of subtlety or imagination there! Baltusrol was and is a hopelessly outdated venue that is an embarassment to golf...almost as absurd as the equipment that forces once superb tracks to destroy what they once were to cope with the wonder of titanium and advanced ceramics.
May I make a suggestion?? Don't increase the length of any Major course by one inch (centimeter??)...grow the rough...narrow the fairways...allow the greens to play normally..and let the chips fall....
THIS IS WHERE THEY ARE GOING TO FALL.......at some point the gutless and lawsuit timid wimps who run golf will have to make a decision. Are real golf courses...Merion..Pebble...Oakmont..Augusta...going to have to bastardize themselves so Ping and every other money grubbing manufacturer can sell some player with a lousy swing a cure...or...are these keepers of the game going to actually keep the game???
If Ping et al keep to their wicked ways then stop manicuring courses for important events.....great conditioning...balls that have unbelievable length and minimal scatter...clubs that would make NASA drool...
and the point is??????
