Cypress Point, Pine Valley, Dunes Golf and Beach Club et al -- changes in Golfweek's top-100 list
GolfWeek’s latest top-100 list has some surprises, for those who like to follow rankings. Cypress Point edged out Pine Valley for the top spot in the classic (pre-1960) category, marking the end of Pine Valley’s 10-year reign at the top.
Pine Needles in the Carolina Sandhills region jumped 10 spots to No. 75. The Dunes Golf and Beach Club held steady at No. 92.
Other notable changes in the modern (post-1960) category include Jupiter Hills in Florida falling 10 spots to No. 72, Old Memorial in Tampa falling dramatically from the No. 71 to No. 98 and Caledonia Golf and Fish Club in Pawleys Island slipping almost 20 spots, from No. 73 to No. 92.
A new course in the Hilton Head area, the May River course at Palmetto Bluffs in Bluffton, eased into the 100th spot.
