Yes, Biloxi is back in the golf business

A reader wrote recently that he was considering putting together a golf trip to Biloxi. He says he found one Gulfport golf packager out of business, another who wouldn’t answer his phone, another who said the area wasn’t ready for tourists, and a travel agent who said the same. Yet another company said the area was fine for a golf trip.

He wanted to know if he would look like a fool for trying to arrange a golf trip to Biloxi for 12 people.

No, you won’t.

The truth is, most of the golf courses in the Biloxi area are back in business. The problem may be in finding a place to stay, because many of the hotels and motels are still down from Hurricane Katrina.

Still, there are plenty of rooms available at the casinos. The Beau Rivage re-opened on the first anniversary of Katrina, with more than 1,700 rooms. Seven others have also re-opened, all but one with rooms. In all, there are about 10,000 rooms available.

“People don’t know we’re back to functioning normally,” Mississippi Gulf Coast CVB president Steve Richer told TravelGolf.com recently. “… Golf is certainly coming back. There are places to stay, restaurants to eat in.”

So yes, by all means – put together a trip. Just call ahead and make sure you have rooms and tee times.

I’ll even give you a contact: Don Faggard at Gulf Coast Golf Tours (gulfcoastgolftours.com) at (800) 383-4148 or (251) 478-5617.

Tim,
I'm taking a group of 24 down to Biloxi on
Monday (Nov 27) for a week. We've gone
for the last 5 years -except last year.
We have condos set up and playing 6 times.
And problem booking the trip.

All good down under.
