One of my favorite short stories was by, I believe, a writer named Harlan Ellison. I read it many years ago, so the details may be off a bit. Basically, a group of people were sitting around after having attended a friend’s funeral. “What a great guy,” they all said. “Salt of the earth.” And so forth, which is typical of funerals.
Finally, one man couldn’t stand it any more. “What a jerk,” he blurted, or words to that effect. “What a complete jerk.”
And all the others silently nodded in agreement.
By all accounts, Gerald Ford was a very friendly guy, with a great sense of humor about his bad golf. His friends probably liked him quite a bit.
But, seeing that I grew up in the Watergate era, all I can think about is how he pardoned Richard Nixon. The most wretched, despicable president in U.S. history, and Ford let him off the hook.
It was the dawn of my political cynicism. I guess we are different, I remember thinking. I guess having powerful friends means you can act above the law without consequence. Nothing has changed my mind til this day.
Every man’s death diminishes me, someone said, and it’s a good thought. So I’ll just go with that.

And, hey, guess what? People like you let HIM off the hook.
as well.
Give me a viable alternative -- and I mean a REAL conservative -- and I'll vote for him. But when the only other option is Gore or Kerry, sane voters have no choice.
Once Islamic Fundamentalism had a Nation to operate from with petro dollars to back them up, Worldwide Jihad had a sponsor.
Jimmy Carter is still a far greater criminal today than Nixon ever was.
Then I guess you won't shed any tears or even feel bad when former President Clinton leaves this earth.
It seems that you are outraged at Ford's pardon of Nixon.
Surely you've heard of Marc Rich and Pincus Green. These two were under indictment for multiple counts of fraud, conversion, and tax evasion.
In 1983, they abconded to Switzerland with their ill-gotten billions in order to avoid prosecution. They even renounced their US citizenship.
On January 20, 2001, in his last official act as President, Clinton granted them both an unconditional pardon for all their illegal acts, even those on which they hadn't been indicted.
Coincidentally, Rich's ex-wife had contributed substantially, reportedly more than one millionUSD to Hillary's campaign and to the Clinton library.
These transfers concern the Soviet Union (Russia) so much they have taken drastic steps to protect their own stolen (from US) technology being transferred to China in their joint space program.
Apparently the Soviets are far better at protecting American weapon technology than we are.
Your handle is quite fitting. Read what Alex and One-Putt said above. The Slickster is by far the worst president in US history. Unfortunately, however, I suspect that the guttersnipe will lose that title in 2008.
choice between degenerate globalist
John Kerry and degenerate globalist
George Bush, both traitors to this
country, I don't see the point in
validating the system any longer. I am
on the sidelines, patiently waiting
for a patriotic colonel to lead a coup
and give us back our country. The last
guy to do that was named George Washington.
We aren't gonna vote our way out of this mess.

Staying on the sidelines and patiently waiting ain't gonna get it.
You're going to have to do more.
Personally, I would love a second American revolution as well, but in the meantime we have to do what good we can.
I think it would be wise to be mindful of what Jefferson said: "Passion governs and she never governs wisely."
Yes, Bush and Kerry both are quite flawed. Both are globalists. Both are statists. And such an understanding, being as it is factual, probably derives from the intellect. However, if something is telling you that there is no difference between them, it's not your intellect talking.

Judge, you are right, one is taller than
the other, in fact. The point is they
are figureheads, and it matters not one
bit who is in there. The policy shots
are called from behind the scenes.
You're obviously conspiracy-minded; I am not. The fact of the matter is that many of the "shots" are very different under Bush than they'd be under the counterfeit soldier or Plastic Man.
