New golf trail in Myrtle Beach

Any golfer who has thoroughly explored Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand knows the area is sort of like Old Dixie in microcosm. The South Strand is much more laid back than the Central. And both are very different from the North.

To that end, 12 courses in the South have joined together and formed a separate trail.

Secession!

“While we are just 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, the Waccamaw Trail offers a different golf trip than you enjoy in Myrtle Beach or North Myrtle Beach,” Myrtle Beach National VP of golf operations Jim Woodring said in a press release.

Very true. The South Strand is made up of some quiet, old courses built on former rice and indigo plantations. They have that old-time, historic plantation feel to them. On the other hand, many of the courses in the North, including North Myrtle Beach, have better value.

The new trail has some of the best Myrtle Beach has to offer, and some of my personal favorites, like True Blue, Caledonia, Pawleys Plantation and Willbrook.

The name comes from the river that winds along the South Strand.

The trail offers various specials, packages and dining guides.
