The Golf Channel makes history: What of Kelly Tilghman, first female golf anchor for PGA Tour?
Friday January 5, 2007 | 09:09:08 130 words, 15589 views
Quick first impression of the first, historic, female anchor in a PGA Tour broadcast booth: Not bad. Not bad at all. If Kelly Tilghman was nervous about making history, she didn’t show it during The Golf Channel’s own historic opening shot with the PGA Tour, in opening round coverage of the Mercedes Championship in Hawaii. She was smooth and blended seamlessly with analyst Nick Faldo and even guest analyst Rocco Mediate. She set up Faldo well, and appears to have a fairly wry sense of humor herself, which is definitely called for in golf. “There are a variety of responsibilities for me, first and foremost, help Nick tee off and maybe make sure his tie is straight, too, when he’s not looking,” Tilghman told the Detroit News before Thursday’s broadcast. Comments:
I ran into Tilghman while covering the 2004 US Women's Open. Those who think she's poised yet hot on-air, by God, should get a load of her in the flesh. Wow.
She was having a drink at the end of the day, and I sidled up to her table. But because I didn't know anyone there, I didn't have much to say beyond my usual "in the presence of a lovely woman" line: "Er, um, hubble mawbry bulbizaz." Well, that's what it sounded like, anyway. Ye Smooth I ain't.
I don't believe that female broadcasters should get special exemptions from the PGA Tour.
"Making history as the first..." is a
concept that is only important to a bolshevik.
Kiel, I'll bet you any amount of money I've scared away more good-looking women than you with my verbal bumbling.
Yes, I'm criminally handsome, but the women-folk like them smooth talkers.
Tim,
Then who is that guy in the picture next to your name?
Judge Smails,
I am fairly certain that picture is Tim's grand mother...
I saw somewhere that Kelly Tilghman is gay...Not that there's anything wrong with that...
Well she might have made history but you cannot leave out the fact that she made an inflammatory and egregious remamrk when she said " young golfers should "lynch" Tiger Woods in an alley." That is unacceptable, especially for someone of Tiger Woods stature to be direspected in a sport that he changed and molded with his elite ability and powerful performance everytime he steps on the green...
Does anyone really understand what kelly was saying? It had nothing to do with race. It was a statement that it seemed to her that if the other golfers wanted a chance at winning that (jokingly) they needed to get tiger to lay down for a few tournies.
If tiger doesnt play then they have a chance. But in reality if the golfers would get out and run and workout and spend time on thier games they wouldnt have to worry about tiger but play as well as he does. Leave a comment: |
