PGA and LPGA Pros offering free golf lessons in May

Win a free golf book!

The golf industry has been designating May as free lesson month for the last few years, and the LPGA is getting involved in it for the first time.

Good time for you ladies to get free lessons. Just go to the LPGA Web site, or PGA.com, the PGA of America’s site, for that matter, and see if an LPGA certified club or teaching pro in your area is participating this year. Call her up, sign up and get some free lessons, but be aware it will only be for 10 minutes.

The LPGA pros are being asked to do four hours of free, 10-minute lessons for the month.

“I’ve already had about 55 (teaching pros) contact me,” an LPGA member services assistant told TravelGolf.com. “I’m sure we’ll get a lot more.”

The project is under the Play Golf American umbrella and includes the PGA of America, Golf Digest, the Golf Channel and Golf for Women magazine

The proverbial carrot...is this a loss-leader to get you in the door for a series of lessons? On the other hand, do I expect a series of lessons to be free? I´ve never felt comfortable with this promotion, but find the words to describe my feelings difficult to enunciate.

It's because you're using phrases like "loss leader."

Are you taking offense to my hyphen? What can one possible learn in ten minutes to warrant the expenditure of time? I´ll hang up and gladly listen.
