David Leadbetter has Michelle Wie's swing all screwed up

I’m no swing doctor - if you ever saw me take a hack, that would surely be obvious - but it sure looks like legendary golf teacher David Leadbetter has Michelle Wie’s swing all screwed up.

It may be due to other factors - her injured wrist, her deflated self-confidence - but I don’t see that beautiful, natural rhythm in her swing any more, especially off the tee.

I’ve attended a Leadbetter school. Not with The Legend himself, of course, but one of his minions. The Legend himself only makes himself available to the superstars. They had every kind of newfangled, high-tech gizmo there and the instructors were all pleasant, patient and very good at what they do.

But, I felt like I was a robot trying to duplicate what the machines were telling me to do. Now, it so happens that I am one of the most naturally-gifted athletes in the tri-county area, and I was actually doing just fine pre-Leadbetter (I went to his school for a story).

I’m not saying the great Leadbetter method screwed me up, but I eventually just went back to what felt more natural. I took away one or two tips the Leadbetter guys gave me, but essentially I ignored most of what the machines told me.

That’s what Wie needs to do. Ditch Leadbetter.

How could Leadbetter teach a natural swing with pants hiked up that high?

It's easy to blame everyone but Wie and the Wiebots for her problems. She will never recover with that attitude.
The body and the mind need to work in Harmony to be at its best. Good bye Bubbles, it was nice and Profitable while you were here abut alas you should try to figure out how to be honest so at least you can salvage the rest of your life. Go get married but don't have any kids.

Tim...come on, what do you expect from Leadbetter at $1800.00 per hour teaching fee, a miracle??

Those who can't, coach

Looks like coaching, and then writing are in Michelle Wie's near future.

Didn't David perfect another golfers swing? I think he was named Ty or something?

McDonald is right about this. I've said this before, but I knew a golf professional who used to play one of the mini-tours. According to him, the guys on tour would say, "If you're not playing well, go to Leadbetter . . . and you'll get worse." He said that they used to call him "Leadpoison."

I have to agree with both Tim & Smails on this one, too--a first! I find Leadbetter's instructional pieces in the traditional golf rags to be completely incomprehensible. And the way he follows Wie around the course during practice rounds is downright creepy.

Tuck--I think the pants up around the
armpits thing promotes the early clearing of the hips.
