2008 PGA Show: Big boy toys

ORLANDO – Everybody, or at least all males, want to hit the golf ball further. Here are some of my favorite big-boy toys from the PGA Show for long-johns.

— I need to get a “Fat Bastard” driver. Their motto is “If you have the balls, we have the club.”

It is, indeed a fat bastard, with a 500 cc clubhead. That’s illegal, of course, or against the rules, I should say, but I like the feeling of being illegal.

Actually, the club doesn’t feel gigantic in your hands like you think it might. After all, it’s only 40 ccs bigger than the legal limit. But, I just like holding 500 ccs. It’s like the different between a Harley Fat Boy and a Honda middleweight cruiser.

— Power Hitters has some training aids that will make you think you’re Sean “The Beat Fister,” the long-drive monster.

I liked the weighted shoulder turn vest and the weighted, 350 gram practice club used by the Beast himself. Ixnay on the big, clunky shoes they offer.
