Fred Funk golf's first $2 million man?

Some time ago, I predicted Fred Funk would dominate the Seniors Tour (sorry, I insist on calling it that and avoid the marketing-speak.)

His win last weekend at the season-opening Master Card Championship in Hawaii with a stunning 21-under was his third Seniors Tour win in 14 starts.

OK, so he’s been a force, but not exactly dominant. He finished 16th on the old boys money list last year. If he played full time, instead of splitting his schedule with the PGA Tour, it would be a different story.

How’s this, though? He’s well on his way to becoming golf’s first $2 million man, winning at least $1 million on the Senior Tour and the PGA Tour.

Last year, he fell a little more than $2,000 shy.

Funk is made for the seniors. Most senior setups are shorter than the big boys, and Funk is short, but straight.

He earned more than $185,000 in his first two PGA Tour starts, tying for 25th in the Mercedes Benz and 10th in last week’s Sony Open.

Funk told the Associated Press the PGA Tour players tell him he should stick with the old-timers, who in turn tell him he should be playing with the big stars.

“I’m confused,” Funk joked to the AP.
