Johnny Miller right on with his comments about Tiger Woods, the formerly presumptive Grand Slam winner
Johnny Miller showed why he is the best, most brutally candid golf analyst yesterday with his comments on Tiger Woods.
Woods, as most people might know, talked early in the season about his pursuit of the Grand Slam.
Miller must have been thinking what I and a million other golf fans were thinking.
Isn’t it a little early to be making such a bold prediction? Even if it’s Tiger Woods doing the talking?
“I’m not taking a slam at Tiger, but I think the Grand Slam is something you start thinking about on the first of August, after you’ve won the three other ones,” Miller said during a conference call with the media.
Woods, of course, finished second at The Masters, dashing any hopes of a Grand Slam.
Miller also talked about how convenient it is that Woods is skipping The Players Championship for arthroscopic knee surgery, pointing out his less than sterling history at the TPC.
You’d think Woods might have waited a bit for the surgery, opting to play the tournament with the year’s strongest field.
Woods is so dominant, most people – particularly in the media – are petrified of saying anything that might be construed as criticism. Miller isn’t.

Miller is one of the few analysts willing to criticize the Great Tiger, when he deserves it or even IF he thinks he serves it.
Those who fawn over Woods are blinded by legitimate criticism, like you.
I certainly enjoy watching golf broadcasts lately - There really ARE other golfers participating in these weekly events.
Tiger is the only player of this generation who has even a remote chance to catch Nicklaus' record of 18 professional records. Are you really so out of touch with the history of the game that you think he would rather win The Player's rather than be prepared for one of the majors?
I detect a little racism from Miller and Tim.

Is Tiger Woods above being criticized because he is primarily Asian and minorly Black & Indian? C'mon now. If you want to argue about the criticism itself, fine, let's have some intelligent discourse. Believe it or not, most of us don't have an ulterior motive. We WANT to "judge a man by the content of his character".
I agree--but look at Judge Smails' comment above. The Tiger critics usually play the race card first.
These knee-jerk racist accusations are irritating.
In fact, it seems to me the accusers are the racists, injecting race into issues that have nothing to do with it.
Second, I'm going to disagree with poster 'pam' in that I don't see anything at all "racist" in either Miller's comments or Tim's blog entry. Tiger DID say he was focusing on the Slam this year and didn't even close out the first one. If Sergio made the same statements, the media (and bloggers) would have ripped him badly.
For the Judge: I've absolutely no doubt that poster 'chuck' is one very angry black man, and that poster 'pam' is a middle-class liberal democrat white female from Massachussets (or California).
PS - "my" demographic...white, male, Central, FL, over 40, 150K+, 9 hdcp.
For the record, if poster 'chuck' is a Tiger fan and not a golf fan - I don't particularly care what his demographics are. Golf has been and will continue to be around a lot longer than any one player.
