Ernie Els stops the bleeding at Memorial, says he'll play after all
The Memorial, one of the more prestigious tournaments after the majors, has already lost Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Adam Scott.
And it thought it had lost Ernie Els, who has changed his mind and now says he’ll play Jack Nicklaus‘ tournament.
Why? A lousy round.
Els told the media his “horrible” performance at the BMS PGA Championship on his home course at Wentworth last week prompted him to change his mind about skipping the Memorial, which he won in 2004.
Els said he needed to get on a competitive course quick.
“It’s one of my favorite tournaments of the year and I love Jack’s course, Muirfield Village,” Els told reporters. “I figure it’ll be a good week to try to get back some positive vibes in my game.”
Woods withdrew because his knee surgery is taking longer than expected.

I don't recall now how I started receiving the Travelgolf.com emails, but I've enjoyed reading your columns for the past few months now and have been meaning tocontact you.
Glad to see you're doing well. I moved from Jacksonville to Jupiter last year and have been writing some for the Post.
I agree that professional golfers should have no place in the Olympics, except that it would be funny to see Vijay march in the opening ceremonies as the only member of Fiji's team, but am curious why you think baseball and softball should not be in the Olympics if basketball is, or do you think basketball should be ousted from the Olympics, too?
Best regards,
Paul Ivice
No, I don't think basketball should be ousted, I just think it should be open to amateurs
If it's one of Ernie's favorite tournaments, why wasn't he playing to begin with? With all the real-world demands on his time, it's a miracle if he wins again.
