Michelle -- "I think I can win the U.S. Open – Wie is back to her old tricks.
Namely, Michelle Wie thinks much too highly of herself.
Of course, every player should go into a tournament believing she should win, but with her history, she should consider keeping her thoughts to herself.
Wie fired an 81 in the first round of the Women’s U.S. Open yesterday, including a 9 on No. 9.
At least she earned her way into the tournament. If you’ll remember, she accepted sponsors exemptions even after a disastrous 2007 season.
“I feel like I’m re-emerging as a new player, a new person,” she told the media the day before the Open started. “I realize I just want to be able to fulfill my full potential. I want to see how good I can get.”
I believe she saw that Thursday. It was the second straight year she has failed to break 80 in the Women’s U.S. Open.

Contrary to your belief the day does end once you finish your early-bird special and tuck yourself in bed.
Good grief, this girl is way out in la la land. We all no that tomorrow Michelle will shoot a 60 and be right back in the tournament. I have heard this song and dance for the past three years. The last tournament she only hit 41% of the fairways and today she hit 42% of the fairways. The leader hit 95% of the fairways. By wowing them on the driving range, it simply doesn't get it done on the golf course. I doubt Nike will extend her contract in October. She has become a basket case and I do not see anything positive for her in 2008.
I must admit I felt almost a little Ron Monish (a frightening thought for anyone) writing that yesterday crack but still couldn't resist.
