You think the Ryder Cup was thrilling? Wait til the last FedEx Cup playoff tournament

Win a free golf book!

I think I speak for all golf fans when I say I’m in breathless anticipation waiting for the big event at East Lake in Atlanta, site of the last of the four FedEx Cup playoff tournaments?

Who will win? Will it be Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Paddy Harrington?

This will put the Ryder Cup to shame because these are the best of the…

Wait – this just in. Oh. I see. Sorry, it says here Vijay Singh has already won it.

Whu?

Yep, all the big Fijan has to do is put on his golf shoes every day and show up for the post-round press conferences. And then there’s the fact Woods is hurt and won’t play until next year.

Look, I’m just sorry all to hell about this because I know the PGA Tour suits tinkered with the rules and all in an effort to make the FedEx Cup more exciting, but how in the hell do you manufacture drama when the guy’s already won the $10 million?

We supposed to tune in to see who finishes second?

What kind of “playoff” is this?

Only in golf.

I’d say the suits have some work to do after Vijay cashes his check, if there are any American banks left that have enough money.

Only the geekiest of golf geeks could have much interest in watching this event now, especially as it's up against football.

Woo-hoo, that's some exciting playoff you've created there, Mr. Finchem. ZZZZZZ.

I guess it could be fun to watch Mickelson implode...nah, he probably won't show up either.

Finchem should contact Bivens and ask for help with this one.

I'd rather watch paint dry than watch football, so I guess I'll be one of the 5 people tuning in to the Fed-Ex Cup final.

Sad there won't be any "drama" but I'm still betting on seeing some darn good golf shots...

Make that 6 geeks, BV. Forget the Fedex Cup aspect - it's still a tournament with money to be won, ranking points to be gained, and some damn good players to watch.

Of course, there may still be some drama; how will the Ryder Cup players perform, will someone win their first tournament this year (come on, Jim!), an incredible story unfold (Dudley Hart), will there be a play-off between VJ and Garcia?

My, these golf-bloggers palates are so jaded!

Hey, I'm self-confessed golf geek #1. My complaint is that this is touted all year as a "playoff" and, in fact, the winner is already decided. If the few of us who will watch some of the telecast are fortunate, there will be some popular players duelling on the back nine Sunday. How thrilling it would be if Kim were to win in a blowout and Vijay finish DFL.
