This week’s edition of the TravelGolf.com This Week podcast has host Dave Berner talking to a wide variety of golf experts.

Award-winning golf-course designer Ron Garl talked about the promising rebound of golf in the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged New Orleans area.

“The city is really back to normal with being able to get workers, but the real problem is the housing shortage for the people,” said Garl. “The good news is they’re ready for golfers and looking for golfers to come down,” said Garl.

Robert Lewis talks about “extreme golf,” which he describes as playing golf in areas you wouldn’t think as a golf location.

“In my book, it really means anything unusual. Or maybe even a par 6,” says Lewis, who tells about the 700+ yard par 6 at Turquoise Valley Golf in Southern Arizona, near the Mexican border.

West Coast Bureau Chief Chris Baldwin talks about golf in Palm Springs, Calif., and how they are working to overcome the idea that it’s a resort town only.

“It’s actually improved some in the last few years,” says Baldwin. “You have new courses that are trying to come in and give it a new bite.”
