The Buckeye state isn’t known as one of the nation’s top golf areas, but Ohio boasts some golf courses that are excellent and have great prices. In this week’s podcast, host Dave Berner talks to T.R. Massey, a blogger for TravelGolf.com and editor of Golf Styles Ohio Magazine, about Ohio’s under-appreciated golf scene.

“Ohio has a hidden wealth of golf courses that, because the state has almost no resorts, people around the country don’t know the resource that’s here,” Massey says. “Ohio has the fifth most golf courses in the United States. [But] it’s a largely ignored natural resource that I think Ohio could capitalize on.”

Regardless of your handicap, it’s a good idea to get your clubs custom fitted, according to Kiel Christianson, TravelGolf.com equipment editor. This is just one of the things Christianson learned on a recent visit to the KZG Fitting and Training Center in North Hollywood, Calif.

“It was very sophisticated,” he says. “They had launch monitors that told spin, swing speed, direction, all that stuff. It was quite thorough.”

Plus, Karen Palacios-Jansen of Swing Blade Golf talks about helping golfers improve their fitness for a better game.

“Lately, my mission has been to help people get better at golf through improving their fitness,” Palacios-Jansen says. “What you want to do is increase your strength and flexibility; you want to increase your endurance and your balance; and you want to increase muscle tone to reduce risk of injury.”

First off I want to say I enjoy your show. The show you had on Monday on golf in Ohio, normally you interviews are well thought out and well done. T R Massey was a triple bogey, he had the opertunity to talk about some of the great places to play and didn't. Murfield is amazing so are the other Columbus course but if your trying to come play golf in this state good luck, your probably not getting on there. His inter interview was focused on private courses in columbus. The only thing he could name from Toledo was Innverness, you mentioned Quall Hollow where the Nationwide Tour use to play. They now play at an unvelievable course called and rated top 100 StoneWater. Avalon Lakes golf course is a Pete Dye resort course in northeast Ohio is Rated I believe 57 on top 100 public course. Longenberger is another top 100 course. All of these courses can be played by any one driving through with an little preperation. I was just very disappointed with the interview it didnt mention any of the great course most people can play. As far as T R Massey he must not play anywhere other than Columbus. I can go on and on with course after course that is championship caliber and open to public.
