Old Tom Morris and his son, Young Tom Morris, are two of the biggest icons in golf history, but how much do we really know about them? In this week’s podcast, host Dave Berner talks to Kevin Cook, author of Tommy’s Honor: The Story of Old Tom Morris and Young Tom Morris, Golf’s Founding Father and Son, about two of the game’s most extraordinary figures.

“These were men who lived remarkable lives in a rollicking time for golf,” Cook says. “You go back and read the contemporary accounts of their matches, which were well covered in newspapers, and you’ve got whole towns turning out and hooting and hollering at the players.”

Booking a golf vacation the whole family will enjoy isn’t easy, but it’s possible to satisfy everybody. Senior Staff Writer Chris Baldwin talks about the best family-oriented golf resorts in the west, including the surprisingly kids-friendly Ritz Carlton at Lake Las Vegas.

“One of the ones that surprised me was the Ritz Carlton at Lake Las Vegas. Las Vegas isn’t a place for kids, even though it seems like a lot of people bring their kids there,” Baldwin says. “But Lake Las Vegas is different. It’s out there on the lake. They have an ice skating rink, they have a ton of kids’ shops, and then you have the golf.”

Plus, Staff Writer Bill Wolfrum talks about a few players making waves on the PGA Tour.

“We’re living in a world right now where Rory Sabbatini is calling out Tiger Woods, so it’s a whole new world on the PGA,” he says. “It’s not so much new names, it’s just some of the guys are finally getting entrenched, and they’re going out there and taking their own, showing a little bit more personality.”
