Palm Springs and San Diego are great summer golf destinations. In this week’s podcast, host Dave Berner talks to golf packager Tim Hurja of Palm Springs Golf Central and San Diego Golf Central about great summer travel deals to both destinations.

“Most people think ‘Oh, I could never afford Palm Springs,’ and that’s probably the biggest misconception I’ve seen,” Hurja says. But “I’ve got some great golf packages starting at $99 per person, per night for hotel and golf.”

Orlando is an American entertainment mecca where the golf scene is dominated by large-scale resorts. But, if you’re not exactly keen on high-priced golf resorts, there are other options, according to Tim McDonald.

“There are a lot of resort courses, and there are a lot of high-end golf courses, but there are some mid-level courses you can play and not spend a fortune,” McDonald says. “I played a good one called Eagle Creek. You can play the course and not break your bank account.”

Hybrid golf clubs are all the rave in golf technology, but Japanese club maker Akira has a unique take on hybrids, according to TravelGolf.com’s Kiel Christianson.

“Hybrids are extremely popular. They’ve grown to be almost ubiquitous, even on the tour,” he says, adding that Akira’s clubs stand out from the crowd. “The first thing I like about them is that they just look sharp. A lot of hybrids look like atrophied fairway woods. These have a beautiful, polished, silver club head with a mat finish. It’s just a sharp looking club.”

If you are talking about golfing for a great price you need to go to the Pala Mesa Resort just north of San Diego. They have numerous golf packages but the best are always the ones that let you golf two days and stay the night. I think last time I went it was like $129 per person. Check out the resort site and I am sure they will have a deal
