Pelican Hill Golf Club in California is one of the country’s premier golf resorts. In this week’s podcast, host Dave Berner talks to Steve Friedlander, the resort’s general manager for golf, about Pelican Hill’s recent upgrade.

“What we did was shut it down two years ago, and essentially rebuilt it from the ground up,” Friedlander says. “Aside from some design changes, we redid all the irrigation to support the new Pelican Hill golf club. With the design changes we essentially re-turfed everything, except for the green.”

Pelican Hill is in Newport Beach, a place Senior Staff Writer Chris Baldwin says is a world onto its own.

“It’s definitely sort of an alternative universe,” Baldwin says. “I was at the grocery store, an organic grocery store, of course, being in Newport Beach - and Sean Penn’s in there shopping the aisles.”

Do you really know how to correctly mark a golf scorecard? TravelGolf.com blogger Ron Montesano talks about the drama that can ensue when scorecard marking goes wrong.
