There’s nothing quite like curling up with a good book, or so they say. Right now, I’m reading The Morris Men by Stephen E. Mitchell. And I’m reading it, because I told the guy I’d review it.
The Morris Men is the riveting tale of two lifelong English rivals and their battles for dominance on the golf course. Ok, that’s all I have. I’m only on page 17. Both main characters have died already by page 17, though I’m assuming there will be some serious flashbacking coming up.
The problem is, I’ve had this book for a month. Reading 17 pages in a month may be fine for the President of the U.S., but it’s not really cutting it for a book reviewer. I’ll be finished in March 2008 at this pace.
So it’s come to this. I have to publicly shame myself so that I read this book and write the review. The book thus far is fine, the words are big and well-spaced (making my 17 pages look even more abysmal). It’s me that’s the problem here.
This is Mr. Mitchell’s first novel, I made him mail it to me, and I will read it. Starting really soon, I will curl up my brains out with The Morris Men. Or I may just write a few more self-shaming blogs about not reading it. Either way, action will be taken.
