Mentel Memorial Golf Course
About
Mentel Memorial Golf Course is one of seven municipal courses in the Columbus area. It underwent a major renovation in 2001 that gave it a new name, updated layout, and a new clubhouse. Although it is sometimes overshadowed by two of the city's more popular municipal courses, Champions and Raymond Memorial, it stands out for its meticulous maintenance. The fairways are well manicured and the rough is well defined. The gently undulating, easy-to-read greens also putt fast and true. There are three lakes that come into play on six holes and more than 40 strategically placed bunkers. Trees are present throughout the golf course, but they sometimes work in your favor by helping to block the constant winds. The sixth is one of the most notable holes at Mentel Memorial, demanding a lengthy drive over a hill.

Course has horrible pace of play
It’s a good course with a good layout, but the pace of play is HORRIBLE. If you’re the type of person that likes to wait 30 min to play every hole and play close to a 6-7 hour round it’s the perfect place for you. I’ve played here numerous times in the summer teeing off around 3:00 pm and only get through about 14 holes every time, have never been able to complete 18 holes. Also I get yelled at by the ranger because they say I’m playing into and too close to the group in front of me when every shot is 25-30 yards away from them. For these reasons I’ll probably not play this course again, which is a shame because it’s in good condition and I live close to it.
Be careful when booking teetimes with this course
When arrived we were told we could only play nine holes and the cost for 9 was only $1 cheaper than quoted 18 holes I reserved on GN. We were under time constraint so we elected to play nine. OK muni course but after we finished our nine holes the 10th tee was wide open so very disappointed in how the course handled things.
Good round
Great course! It’s beautiful and a good challenge for amateur golfers. Greens were extremely, extremely fast even in the rain. Overall good course and good round.
Wonderful city course in great condition. The staff is great and they really try and maintain this course. Will definitely keep coming back
No water
Very hot day and no water not from here but down south every course has water every 3 holes. Was very dehydrated
Fun course
Mentel continues to be a great course. Challenging yet fun. Good value
Another great day
This course never lets me down when I book to play there. Bunkers in great conditions, greens rate about 8 out of 10, and fairways and tee boxes were superb. The pace of play could've been managed better if they would tell beginners to not tee from the blue tees. Other than that, another great day.
Perfect place for kids.
The closest municipal course to this one is Raymond, but you can make excuses at Raymond for it not playing hard enough. This one should be compared head to head with Oakhurst though, because it is the same designer within a mile or two of each other. Mentel doesn't really have the signature feel to specific holes you would like from Jack Kidwell, but the front nine is solid on design. The back nine leaves you feeling flat. The pace of play during the summer is pretty slow, and some of the rangers can be clueless. This is because the have an exchange of labor for tee times, and the fact that a lot of older gentlemen, families, and bigger groups like to play here. The plus side is that they have a solid junior coaching system, and the purple tees are perfect for you kids to play from. This makes it slow for the guy who likes to play fast, but perfect for family outings.
