Toronto (MARCH 14, 2001) - In proclaiming "Golf Is A Walking Game,"
the United States Golf Association (USGA) Members Program continues
to work feverishly to promote the benefits of walking and to reverse
the inexcusable trend of cart golf. Today, thanks to its "A Call
To Feet" promotion, the USGA Members Program now boasts more than
50,000 registered members in its Walking Members Program.
Created in 1995, the USGA Walking Member Program was established to promote the health and fitness of golfers by walking the course instead of using golf carts.
While each individual player has his or her own circumstances to consider when deciding whether to walk or ride, the "Walking Member Program" message is to encourage those USGA Members, who are able, to walk.
"When they leave the golf carts behind and walk the course, members not only keep the most enjoyable way to play golf alive, they also enhance their overall fitness level," said Chris Law, Director of USGA Members Program.
By filling out a Walking Member Declaration (delivered with USGA New Member Benefits Package), each USGA Member receives a Walking Member Bag Tag (in addition to his/her USGA Membership bag tag) and a booklet A Call to Feet: Golf is a Walking Game.
