Graphite Design InternationalGraphite Design International Selects
Publicity Agent Buffalo Communications

TravelGolf.com Staff Report

SAN DIEGO, CA (MAY 1, 2001) - Graphite Design International ("GDI"), one of the largest manufacturers of golf club shafts worldwide, has retained Buffalo Communications ("Buffalo"), a division of Billy Casper Golf, to provide publicity and media-relations services.

Buffalo will manage communication about GDI's activities in the golf marketplace.

"Graphite Design has a lot of wonderful product-performance stories to tell, and we're pleased to bring on Buffalo to relate these stories, such as Greg Norman's personal selection of Graphite Design shafts prior to his endorsement of the product," says Dan Brown, GDI's Vice President of Sales and Tour Relations.

"Buffalo is excited to brand-build Graphite Design, the Mercedes Benz of golf shafts," says Rich Katz, Buffalo's Managing Director. "GDI products perform extremely well for golfers of all skill levels. Therefore, even more original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), golf product distributors and consumers need to know how to get their hands on GDI's technologically superior shafts."

GDI manufactures and sells high-performance shafts to most major golf OEMs, including the top four companies by sales volume. GDI's own branded line of "YS" shafts, used and endorsed by Greg Norman, are available through distributors, retailers and pro shops.

Golfers worldwide are requesting that YS shafts be used in their golf clubs. Part of this is attributed to YS shafts continuing to gain popularity on the PGA Tour. At last week's Greater Greensboro Open, 37 percent of the field used GDI shafts, and more than 50 percent of top-15 finishers played GDI shafts. In 2000, GDI shafts were played by 11 PGA Tour tournament winners. Approximately 85 percent of Japan PGA Tour players use GDI shafts.

GDI uses more than 142 different types of composite materials within its design portfolio. What gives GDI shafts their competitive advantage is largely a low-resin and high-modulus (stiffness) integration. GDI shafts' content mix results in golfers' consistently experiencing superior distance, accuracy, balance, control, trajectory, and impact feedback than other shafts on the market.

In January, GDI announced a joint-venture with Titleist whereby the GDI-branded Graphite Alloy Technology (GAT) shafts will be used with Titleist's current clubs and new products. In upcoming weeks, GDI expects to announce an agreement with a top-30 PGA Tour player to endorse the GAT shaft.
