Steve Williams, the author?

When fellow blogger Matt Paulson went off on Tiger’s caddy, I initially thought it was a low blow. Isn’t picking on a caddy sort of like railing against the house help? But then I learned more about Steve Williams, who is now promoting his book, “Hitting the Zone.” Apparently the book is written in the third person, which is only the most annoying literary device imaginable. In the book -which, honestly, I haven’t read and have no desire to read - Williams explains why being a caddy isn’t for everyone: “It’s very difficult to explain to somebody what a caddy does and it’s a very detailed kind of job. It’s a very intense, involved job.” Well, of course. When I think of complex occupations, I always put caddies right before pilots, doctors and engineers. Anyway, aren’t caddies supposed to be like umpires? If they’re doing their job well, we shouldn’t even know their names. They certainly shouldn’t be writing any books.

It is a sad testament that Mr. Cary chose not to read the book as it has received many good reviews - from current players as well. It also shows the intent to be objective if one reads that which he/she plans to comment on. A Caddie is a human being and should not be judged only on the merits of being a caddie. He is a race car driver and has the gumption to give back to charity. Only a caddie you say? So what are NASCAR drivers? They are placed on a pedestial - not necessarily for their intellegence. So let's not judge Steve just because he goes after guys with cameras. Do you have a book Mr. Carey and is it as critically good at S. Williams?
