Grand Bahama Vacations and The Resort & Casino At Bahamia Team Up to Offer Unlimited Golf

THE BAHAMAS - Grand Bahama Vacations, North America's largest tour operator to Grand Bahama Island, and The Resort & Casino at Bahamia, one of Grand Bahama Island's largest resort, are offering a great vacation escape with Unlimited Golf for the month of September, based on mid-week departures from gateways including Baltimore/Washington, Memphis, Cincinnati, Richmond, Raleigh-Durham, and Fort Lauderdale.

Book a three- or four-night midweek (Sunday to Friday) Grand Bahama Vacations package at The Resort & Casino at Bahamia and play Unlimited Golf including cart on the newly renovated Ruby course.

GBV packages include round-trip non-stop 727 scheduled jet flights on Laker Airways and accommodations. Package rates start at $299 including air, vary by departure, and are based on double occupancy. Airport and departure taxes are not included.

The championship golf facility is undergoing a complete $6 million dollar redesign of its courses, The Ruby and The Emerald, resulting in exquisite playing conditions and a true golfing challenge.

The renovations include lengthening The Ruby course to increase the rating and enhance play; a fully automated irrigation system; additional waste bunkers and new golf carts at Bahamia's pro shop will also be added. The Ruby is presently closed for renovations and will reopen July 2001. The Emerald will be renovated summer of 2001.

These 18 hole, par 72, courses were originally designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee in 1964 and are established sites for major championship tournaments played in the Bahamas.

World-renowned Jim Fazio Golf Design Inc. is heading up the entire revamp and upgrade of the golf courses, which began in the summer of 2000. Jim Fazio Golf Design Inc. has featured golf course design and construction for 35 years throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.

The Resort & Casino at Bahamia, one of Grand Bahama Island's largest resort, is currently undergoing a $42 million enhancement and renovation project. The renovation includes a sleek new resort complex offering two distinctive hotel options surrounded by verdant green parks with walking trails, ponds and waterfalls, and a free form sand pool, designed to bring the beach to the guest.

A complete family-oriented entertainment area with a spa, fitness area and Children's Program will also be added. In addition, the renovation will include new furniture and fixtures in the guest rooms and public areas, two redesigned golf courses, redesign and enhancement of the 27,000 sq. ft. Casino at Bahamia, a new retail shopping mall, re-theming and redesigning several of the restaurants, and the addition of a sports bar in the Tower.

Since 1983, Grand Bahama Vacations has carried 3 million visitors to Grand Bahama Island. Flights depart either on a year-round or seasonal basis, twice a week from Baltimore/Washington, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Hartford, Pittsburgh, Raleigh/Durham, Richmond, Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans.
