GDI's 'YS' Golf Club Shaft Used by the International Winner

From Staff Reports

SAN DIEGO, CA - (August 7, 2001) - Graphite Design International ("GDI") today announces that the winner of yesterday's PGA Tour event, the Qwest International in Denver, CO, used GDI's 'YS' shaft in his golf clubs.

The Quest International marks the seventh tournament in 2001 -- and the 17th in 19 months -- that GDI shafts were used to win a PGA Tour event. The top 15 finishers each week on the PGA Tour have won more than $15,000,000 using GDI shafts, which have also been in the golf clubs of four winners on the 2001 Senior PGA Tour and multiple winners on the European PGA Tour.

"Graphite Design is proud to be provider of shafts with great Tour success," says Dan Brown, Vice President of GDI. "The many Tour wins validate the importance of Graphite Design's high-performance shafts in golf clubs of the best players in the world and the weekend warriors. Graphite Design is obsessed with quality."

Just three weeks ago, a prototype of GDI's next generation of YS shafts was used by the winner of the PGA Tour's Greater Milwaukee Open. The same week, the winner of the LPGA Tour's Michelob Light Classic (Eurkea, MO) used GDI's multi-metal Graphite Alloy Technology ("GAT") shafts in her irons. At last week's PGA Tour event, the John Deere Classic, nine of the Top 15 finishers used GDI shafts.

Other Tour achievements include Greg Norman playing the YS shaft for 3-1/2 years and endorsing it for two; 40 percent of the top 65 players in the 2000 World Ranking play GDI shafts; and PGA Tour player Franklin Langham won more than $1,600,000 and ranked a career-high 26th in 2001 using GDI's GAT shaft (available exclusively in Titleist golf clubs).

GDI's YS shaft is comprised of more than 140 different types of composite materials in GDI's design portfolio. Their low-resin and high-modulus (stiffness) integration results in golfers' consistently experiencing superior distance, accuracy, balance, control, trajectory, and impact feedback.

About Graphite Design International

GDI was established in Japan in 1988, its U.S. operation in San Diego in 1998. GDI made its mark manufacturing high-performance shafts to most of golf's major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide, including the top four companies by sales volume.

GDI's research-and-development talent and manufacturing technologies led the company to brand its own shafts - the YS and GAT lines - in 2000 and 2001, respectively.
