USGA ANNOUNCES $2 MILLION IN ASSISTANCE TO STATE AND REGIONAL GOLF ASSOCIATIONS
Far Hills, N.J. - The United States Golf Association has committed more than $2 million in 2002 for assistance to state and regional golf associations and their programs.
Nearly $800,000 of this total will fund computer hardware, including office and tournament administration equipment for associations; education initiatives, including computer training sessions (and grants for an on-site computer assistant); and a USGA orientation session for staff member from state and regional golf associations, scheduled for January 11-16, 2002, at the USGA headquarters in Far Hills, N.J.
In addition, more than $1.3 million in grants will assist associations through the P.J. Boatwright Jr. Internship Program. This program funds nearly 100 interns, who work at various state and regional golf associations for periods of three to 12 months. The internship program, which started in 1992, began with grants assisting 13 associations for a period of three months only. It is designed to provide entry level golf administration experience to an interested individual while assisting state and regional associations.
NEW GOLF RESORT AND COMMUNITY ANNOUNCED FOR SOUTHERN UTAH
On Monday, November 5th, Hank Isaksen, owner of SUN Realty and World Golf Hall of Fame member, Johnny Miller will announce the first of two Johnny Miller Design, Ltd. golf courses to be constructed in the new master-planned development of, OUTLAW RIDGE RESORT AND GOLF COMMUNITY in Hurricane, Utah.
Commenting on his involvement in Outlaw Ridge, Johnny Miller said, "I have always loved the red rock country of Southern Utah, and the opportunity to be an integral part of such a world-class golf community, in such a beautiful setting, is very exciting."
Outlaw Ridge Resort and Golf Community is designed as a destination resort complete with a world-class hotel, golf, spa, tennis, and a Johnny Miller Golf Academy. The two, 18-hole Johnny Miller Signature golf courses will radiate out from the resort hotel site. One course will be a private country club and the other course will be a high-end daily-fee course open to the public.

In addition, over 200 acres of highway commercial property will be available to provide shopping, banking, business and entertainment to the residents of Hurricane and Outlaw Ridge as well as the visitors who use Highway 9 to visit the National Parks.
Outlaw Ridge will also be unique because of its location next to the new Sand Hollow Reservoir and the surrounding 15,000-acre Sand Hollow State Park. This close proximity will allow both residents and resort guests to enjoy golfing, boating, water sports, swimming and fishing as well as hiking, horseback riding and all-terrain vehicle exploration.
Principals in the Outlaw Ridge project are Hank Isaksen (d.b.a. SUN Realty), Dixie Escalante Electric, Johnny Miller and NFL football great, Steve Young.
Johnny Miller, former U.S. Open and British Open Champion, noted TV golf commentator and international golf course designer, collaborated in the past with Isaksen on the Entrada at Snow Canyon Golf Course in St. George.
Outlaw Ridge Resort and Golf Community is only 40 minutes from Zion National Park, 90 minutes from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and within a two to three hour drive of five additional National Parks or National Recreation Areas.
Construction on Outlaw Ridge is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2002.
