The Top-Flite golf company unveils longest and softest Top-Flite golf ball ever

From Staff Reports

Chicopee, Mass. (June 10, 2003) - The "golf ball with no limits" has just entered the marketplace. The Top-Flite Golf Company, formerly Spalding Sports Worldwide, is launching TOP-FLITE Infinity, the longest and softest golf ball line in the brand's storied history. The product line will have four offerings - AWESOME DISTANCE, ABSOLUTELY STRAIGHT, BUTTERY FEEL and IDEAL SPIN - and will be backed by a $10 million marketing plan. The product line will be available to consumers June 9.

The Infinity product line has the thinnest cover and largest core when compared to competitive two-piece golf balls for the perfect blend of distance and feel in the four key ball types that golfers desire - more distance, straight distance, more spin and soft feel.

The thin Elastomer cover, which measures .040 inches, allows superior energy transfer between the club and the core for more distance. The large, soft Fusion core, which measures 1.60 inches, has a proprietary blend of Polybutadiene rubbers for a buttery soft feeling.

"Extensive consumer testing with 1,500 of golf's best customers was key to bringing TOP-FLITE INFINITY to market," stated Lou Tursi, executive vice president of sales, marketing and customer service for The Top Flite Golf Company. "Our testing was done with players at various levels with a range of swing speeds. They were amazed at the ball's ability to maximize both distance and feel - the key benefits to having the largest core and thinnest cover ever in a golf ball."

$10 million in media support will back the TOP-FLITE Infinity line.

"This is the single biggest product launch in the history of TOP-FLITE, and that's saying something given the success of the TOP-FLITE brand," stated Tim Seitter, vice president of established brands for The Top-Flite Golf Company. "In addition to the $10 million in broadcast and print media, the launch will be supported by extensive sampling, promotions, and in-store merchandising support."

The Top-Flite scientists developed four proprietary blends of Ionomer with the thinnest cover and largest core compared to competitive products in each segment golfers desire - more distance, straight distance, more spin, and soft feel.

The new TOP-FLITE Infinity line is comprised of four distinct models for golfers of all skill level:

• INFINITY AWESOME DISTANCE: The ball to play if you live for distance.

• INFINITY ABSOLUTELY STRAIGHT: With a Slickote(tm) Infused Cover material designed to reduce hooks and slices for straight distance tee to green.

• INFINITY IDEAL SPIN: Provides high spin around the green with Top-Flite distance off the tee.

• INFINITY BUTTERY FEEL: A buttery soft feel for control combined with Top-Flite distance off the tee.

The line of golf balls will retail for around $17.99 per dozen.

Under The Top-Flite Golf Company umbrella are the TOP-FLITE, STRATA by TOP-FLITE, and BEN HOGAN brands. To find more information on The Top-Flite Golf Company, visit topflite.com or call (866) 834-6532.
