Tunica National, Mississippi's newest course, already earning raves
From Staff Reports
JACKSON, Miss. (July 25, 2003) -- The Mississippi Development Authority Division of Tourism has announced the imminent opening of Tunica National Golf & Tennis Club, the state's newest addition to a collection of golf courses that has earned Mississippi international acclaim as one of the world's best emerging golf destinations.

The 212-acre public course is scheduled to open in October. It will have a 360-degree driving range, with multiple targets and four distinct practice areas. As part of its Grand Opening, Tunica National will host a Pro-Am, with 16 touring pros already signed up.
The opening of Tunica National comes at a time when the world is taking note of the prestigious courses found in Mississippi. "The Golf Insider," the leading golf-travel-rating newsletter, recently named Mississippi as the "Best Up-and-Coming Domestic Golf Destination of the Year." The Golf Insider annually ranks "The Year in Golf Travel" and Mississippi was honored for its high performance, quality offerings, and rapidly-increasing number of attractions and value it offered golf travelers in 2002.
"With courses designed by Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Arthur Hills, Hale Irwin and Jerry Pate, it's no wonder golfers are increasingly discovering Mississippi offers convenient access to a wealth of unique, highly-rated golf venues at affordable prices," says Steve Hale, the MDA's Executive Director. "Visitors tell us they love complementing their one-of-a-kind golf experiences in Mississippi with trips to our many other attractions, including new casinos, world-famous music, delicious cuisine, and with our heritage, history and architecture."
This is the latest distinction earned by Mississippi golf tourism. Mississippi was nominated as a "Best Emerging Golf Destination of the Year" for 2002 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).
This was the second consecutive year Mississippi was nominated by the IAGTO in this category, and it was the only U.S. representative golf destination included on the list, which included Bahamas, Barbados, South Africa, Italy, Spain, Thailand, and Gold Coast, Australia. The IAGTO Awards are the official annual awards for the golf tourism industry.

The complex at Tunica National also will feature an 8,000 square foot clubhouse containing four Davis Cup indoor clay tennis courts, the only Hydro-Grid Har-Tru indoor clay courts south of Washington, D.C.
