Great layout
Both the Marsh and especially the Lakes were in excellent condition, still one more nine. Fairways, greens and Tee Boxes were in great shape.
This is one of the best courses that I have played in Gulf Shores, Ala. I have played
several courses in area, but Peninsula is always in great shape, staff is always
helpful and the layout of all 3 courses is great....will always come back here.
Great facility
everything about peninsula was top notch. With the large fast greens I would like to see the holes about 5 times bigger than normal so a 2 putt would be possible!
captmtm
It was a joy to play , greens and fairways in very good shape and green!!
Peninsula golf course
Couple tough holes to start, but kinda your basic resort course.
Pace could have been better, but everyone was nice and busy.
Great Resort Course
Peninsula Course was in great condition. Layout was very resort friendly with numerous tee boxes. The greens were very fast, but rolled true.
Disappointing
This wasn't my first round at Peninsula, but it'll probably be my last. Course conditions were fine -- not great, but good enough. In fairness, the greens were all in very good shape. At least a couple of fairways had some real turf issues in the landing areas, though.
But the biggest problem that I ran into was customer service. Even though I was a single with no group behind me, I wasn't allowed to walk, which is just stupid. The first nine holes were fine. But around Hole No. 10 or 11, a couple of maintenance guys drove up behind me and started doing work with power tools. They basically followed me around the course for the rest of the round, moving up to the area I'd just left every time I finished a shot. So I got to enjoy my last nine holes to the sweet, dulcet tunes of leaf blowers and trimmers. Not ideal.
Finally, over my last few holes, I got stuck behind an elderly couple, who were obviously high-handicappers (I've no quarrel with them there) and who drove to every shot. At the pace I saw them play, they must have taken at least five hours to finish. But the staff was worried about *me* slowing things down as a walker? Get real.
All in all, a very frustrating experience. And for $98 a pop, the experience simply was not worth it. Peninsula has always had a reputation on the Gulf Coast for being a little overpriced, and they did not earn that premium with me.
