Worth it
It’s great to see the course in great shape again. A few spots on some of the greens but overall very good. A bit of a hike from metro Atlanta but you’ll be glad you went.
Instructions needed to get around
Staff did not explain-Where is the range, how do I get there, where is #1 Tee box/#10?
Could have easily been solved by, "follow the red/green/blue arrows, which we noticed after the fact. We felt like we were a burden by being there. Would not recommend again.
Not a resort quality course
With what Callaway gardens is you would expect this to be an elaborate course, but it wasn’t. It was an OK layout with a fair assortment of challenges, guarded greens, plenty of length, etc. Butt there were some glaring issues that take alway for me. The course sorta felt unkempt. No real separation between fairway and short rough with not being able to tell fairway from rough from the tee. The tee boxes were so long! I was hitting grass on every driver. The greens were all over the place, but all not ideal. Either the grass was long and slow and hard to read or the greens were just completely trashed with hard packed, cracked dirt and hardly any grass. I just expect greatness for a course on a resort like this, but this course was no different than my local muni.
Shadow of former self
I was so excited to play here knowing they used to play pga events here a couple decades ago. Arriving to the first tee everything looked great, but hole 2 and onward the fairways were longer than rough at most courses. The greens were terrible. Some needed cut and were like putting in fairway, most were dead or dying, cracked, over sanded. Just a mess honestly. I've played courses for 15 dollars that were much better.
Continues its demise..
You would think it can’t get any worse, it continues to go down hill.. sad to see.. it’s a $20-25 course now at best and they have continued to raise the greens fees to where now a “hot” deal on here is $55 plus fees and such.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.. greens , tee boxes and fairways are pitiful.. honestly I don’t even think they employ an actual greenskeeper at this point as I think about anyone could do better than what this course has turned into..
Horribly maintained
This golf course should be called Callaway cow pasture, because I would never see any type of garden flourishing here at all. The ignoring of maintenance at this course is insane, coming from someone who has had 2 years in golf maintenance, it shows clearly that it is not properly maintained not even a little bit. The tee boxes were like hitting out of the rough, they definitely need to be trimmed, the fairways are not trimmed up at all. I am all about long rough, but when you get to just outside of the green it was ridiculous. I had multiple shots that were just to the right or left of the green and I could not find my ball. The greens were bumpy and you could not hit a putt true to the line, because it would just bounce like a basketball. They are ridiculously slow and not trimmed. For a course that was used for a pga event roughly 20 years ago, it should not be in bad of a shape as it is. Considering the four of us payed 200 in total with a promo code, we were all very disappointed. Will never play this course again.
Such a shame!
Man this course used to actually be a PGA tour stop, now there are so many municipal courses that are in far better shape! Greens are half dead , will not roll true , full of poanna and ball just bumps left right up and down as you putt. Bunkers are hard packed sand some even have baby pine trees growing all in them. Fairways are like hitting off a cart path , better make sure to try to pick it clean ! Tee it up higher on boxes with a 3.5 inch tee and ball was still in grass where they had not been mowed in days. Only good thing I can say was the turn had a nice meal in the champions grill. Honestly this is a $25-30 per round course , yes it’s that bad not exaggerating, Bull Creek in Columbus is head and shoulders above this course in condition. It has gradually went down hill for years now and honestly don’t think I will be back after todays round here. If I ever do I will be sure to snap pics of the course to show.
Let down
I remember playing this course when I was younger and it was in great shape. I was so sad to see the terrible conditions. Tee boxes are overrun, greens are in horrible shape, the bunkers have not been turned over in what seems like years. Because of this, grass and weeds are growing in the bunkers and are like hitting off the cart path. The greens are in horrribllleeee shape. The fact that they used to play a pro tournament here is unreal. Will not be playing again. It’s a $20-$30 course.
Disappointing
Tee boxes were over grown had about 2 to 3 inches of grass also fairways were like hitting out of the rough the layout wasn't too bad. greens were hit and miss I don't think I'll be coming back such a beautiful place that needs some TLC!! This was the mtn course btw
They continue to struggle with the greens for whatever reason. I thought having champions Bermuda on the putting surfaces would be better this time of year. I know they had a bad infestation of poana but it has died off a couple months ago.
The tee boxes were shaggy with seed tassels growing on top and the fairways were also shaggy as well. We did not mind the fairways so much as the ball really sits up with the longer grass.
I definitely would recommend playing here if you can pick up a hot deal but cannot recommend it for $95 around with the conditions such as they are.
The pace of play was also excruciatingly slow. Living in this area we are limited by the amount of public courses where we can play. I've been playing Callaway gardens for over 20 years and I absolutely love the challenging layout. I just hope they can get their turf Care figured out and it can return to the days of yesterday.

Great course, always love playing here. Greens were in rough shape and could use a bit of work but always pleasant to play
In need of some attention
I have played this course for many years and this is by far the worst I’ve seen it. The fairways were on need of mowing and the greens were on terrible conditions. There were considerable amount of weeds and rough patches on every green. I’ve never seen this course in this shape before. This is not the Callaway course I remember. I’ve spent less on muni courses that were in better condition than what I experienced.
Wow so bad
The price went up and the quality went down. Really bad place
I’ve been hoodwinked
Drove two hours to play here. Better grass in my backyard and my yard is horrible. $90 and weeds EVERYWHERE. Impossible to red putts longer than 6 ft. Don’t even try to putt on fringe. Just bad. Even the practice green and driving range is infested. 2nd worse course I’ve played in my life. Layout is nice, has potential but the course has been let go. DO NOT PLAY HERE.
The greens and tee boxes were very disappointing. We’ve been coming here for the past three years and this has been the first time I’ve been disappointed. I think we’ll check the reviews closer and wait until later in the summer to see if they come back to normal.
I really appreciate these reviews. My son is into golf now and I wanted to take him. The wife and I used to frequent Callaway via their golf packages, always great experiences. I am dodging disappointment. Thank you. The reviews for the rest of the resort are not much better. Sounds like new management is way overdue. Another weird/disappointing thing was trying to book. I had such great experiences there before I nearly did it online but the site was wonky and didn't let me book golf packages. I tried to book the lodge (2 nights for $558 with all fees) thinking I could just golfnow closer to time ($90-130ish for 2 golfers). Glad I didn't because I called and they said $952 (!!!!!) on the phone for a golf package, no food, nothing, just room and 2 players for golf. You do the math. The lady on the phone could not fathom that I was explaining this to her. The package does not even allow you to book a tee time! You still have to do it within a week of playing. You can get on Lake View (the more fun course to me) for under $50 pretty regularly, especially during the week. They are trying to hit me for an additional $150 per day for nothing!
