In its second year under new ownership, Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas is bucking again. While staff members at Stallion Mountain will tell you the course isn't quite where they want it to be, it's still one of the better courses in Las Vegas' upper-middle class golf scene, Brandon Tucker writes from Sin City.

Amid a picturesque background with a reasonable price centrally located just outside Myrtle Beach, the golf at Myrtle Beach National's SouthCreek Course is, well, true. There aren't any gimmicks. It's just golf at one of its purest forms. Pristine tee boxes and greens, fairways without glitches and clearly marked site lines are the standard here. And it's why locals and tourists have continued to make it a regular part of their rotation.

It's easy to hear the name Malibu Golf Club and envision a snooty private country club. Nothing could be farther from the truth. This beautiful parcel of land in the Santa Monica Mountains has always been open to the public and only 45 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. And you can play in the off-season for as little as $60.

The pictures of hole no. 10 at Long Bay Golf Club on the north end of the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand, which has a waste bunker shaped like a tuning fork, have pretty much become synonymous with the course. There's much more than one great hole at Long Bay, however. With several holes considered among the toughest in the area, Long Bay Golf Club is not for the once-a-year golfer. But even high handicaps, however, can enjoy a round.

Play both courses, and you will get a feel for what the pros face every week -- superb conditioning and lightning-fast greens.

It's a good idea to get the swing dialed in before heading onto the 6,810-yard, par-71 Desert Pines Golf Club in Las Vegas. Opened in 1997, Desert Pines pinches narrow in a number of spots. It's just a short cab ride (each way) from the Vegas Strip, but it feels miles away thanks to a setting reminiscent of the rolling hills of the Carolinas.

Bali Hai Golf Club commands one of the priciest green fees in Sin City. Part of what you pay for is the convenient location on the Strip. The other part of what you pay for is the experience of stepping into Bali Hai's unique tropical world and the top-notch service that comes with it. Splurging on Bali Hai is well worth it, Jason Scott Deegan writes from Las Vegas.

Welcome to Painted Desert Golf Club, where the desert surroundings and lush landscaping come together to form a solid golf experience. The course winds through neighborhoods in northwest Las Vegas and meanders over and around sections of desert areas. It's not the longest course you'll find in Vegas. It's not the most challenging course, either. But when it comes to golf experiences and people running the show, you'll be impressed.

The private TPC Summerlin might seem more prestigious than the public TPC Las Vegas, but the PGA Tour pros who live in Vegas prefer to hang out at the TPC Las Vegas. Add an excellent Tour Academy and a fine JW Marriott across the street, and the TPC Las Vegas is one of the best stay-and-play golf vacations in the high Nevada desert, Jason Scott Deegan writes.
