New England
Northern New England may be the only place in America where so many golf courses have a split personality in terms of design. Why? As Staff Writer Henry Choi explains, there were scads of nines were laid out in the 1920s and 1930s, only to be expanded decades later by different architects. He cites North Conway Country Club and Lake Kezar Country Club, which have nines that are light years apart in terms of style and vintage.
