ORLANDO, Fla. -- How often do you have the chance to play golf in a legend's backyard? At Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, you can do just that.
Though Bay Hill is technically private, overnight guests of the Lodge are allowed access to the golf facilities, which include the famed Bay Hill Championship Course and nine hole, executive-style Charger Course.
The Championship Course at Bay Hill, which reopened in late summer 2009 after an extensive renovation, is one of the best golf courses in Orlando. Nestled within a high-end residential community, it has a "country club" feel despite being fewer than 15 minutes from Disney.
With the renovation, bunkers were made larger and more visible, and greens were flattened to allow for more hole locations. The result with the bunkers is more intimidating shots off the tee and into the greens. Though the flatter greens make putting more straight-forward, it's a blessing and a curse because tucked pins bring the jagged rocks more into play.
The most thrilling part of a tee time at Bay Hill Club & Lodge, however, is walking in the footsteps of PGA Tour legends. In addition to the Arnold Palmer effect, who can forget Tiger Woods has won six times here.
