The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia: Host of the Greenbrier Classic on the PGA Tour
Dating back to 1778, the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia is one of America's most historic golf retreats and has served as a vacation spot for past United States presidents. Martin Van Buren and Dwight D. Eisenhower escaped here for golf and relaxation. The resort is located 80 miles from Roanoke in the Allegheny Mountains.
The resort has three 18-hole golf courses, the Old White, Greenbrier and Meadows. These courses also have an illustrious past in the golfing world as host to both the Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup Matches.
As of 2010, the Greenbrier is on the PGA Tour circuit, hosting the Greenbrier Classic for the next six years on the Old White course, which plays a par-70, 6,826 yards. PGA Tour legend Tom Watson currently serves as the resort's Golf Emeritus.
Activities off the golf course include a 40,000-square-foot spa and casino club. A slew of outdoor activities are also available, including horseback riding and mountain biking.
