Old school is seldom celebrated in Grand Strand golf but Litchfield Country Club on Pawley's Island is a Myrtle Beach golf course with a past to trumpet. Opened in 1966, Litchfield was the first course built on picturesque Pawleys Island and one of the original eight golf courses in the entire golf-mad greater Myrtle Beach region.
It hasn't felt the need to change a whole lot either.
The William Byrd design holds up today with its giant oaks and gleaming lakes. Some of the oaks date back to the 18th century and there's a private feel to the place (Litchfield is an actual country club with members too).
Golfers may be most happy that its player-friendly features have been kept intact. This is a course where you can feel free to play the bump and run game.
