Dramatic mountain vistas highlight Silverstone Golf Club in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS -- Although Silverstone Golf Club isn't too far from the Las Vegas Strip, the dramatic backdrop provided by Sheep Mountain in the distance makes this Bob Cupp design feel much further from the city.
Silverstone offers three nine-hole courses that can be played in pairs for three different 18-hole combinations: Valley, Mountain, and Desert. They each take their name from the array of landscapes you'll find on the course.
The Mountain is the longest course of the three and can feel even longer than the nearly 3,600 yards indicated on the scorecard thanks to elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Golfers can enjoy some of the best views from this nine.
The Valley is Silverstone's shortest course at just under 3,400 yards but like the Mountain, it is characterized by its rolling terrain.
Every combination provides a different set of challenges, but they're still playable for a range of skill levels. Beginners shouldn't feel too intimidated, especially since there are four different sets of tees.
In addition to the golf course, Silverstone also has an extensive practice facility with a driving range, putting green, and multiple short-game areas. The staff is attentive and the plush golf carts include high-end GPS systems. There is also a bonus hole -- a par 3 next to the clubhouse that plays over a pond -- where you can go to break ties or settle a friendly golf wager.
