Offended by 'redneck' comment, reader picks NASCAR over golf

NASCAR Racing(Aug. 30, 2005) - As a devoted NASCAR fan, I for one am proud of NASCAR's racing past and look forward to the future. In Chris Baldwin's article "Tim Finchem going down the wrong road with NASCAR model", the subject line, "Leave NASCAR to the rednecks," offended me.

I have followed NASCAR for many years, and to insinuate in the article that being a fan is bad because NASCAR fans are "rednecks" that live in the motor homes, drink beer by the bucket and tote the Confederate flag, cannot be further from the truth.

You are correct to say that golf needs to change if it ever expects to get the devoted fans that NASCAR has. I for one, get really tired of only seeing Tiger Woods on the television broadcasts when he plays in a tournament. For some reason golf fans must like to focus on one player, even if he's playing bad. Golf on TV is boring at best.

I guess I'll have to choose, so I think I'll stay a redneck and have opted to unsubscribe to This Week at Travel Golf.
